The second and final phase of monitoring associated with the Hacketstown Water Scheme was undertaken from 1 to 5 July 2002. All topsoil-stripping associated with site preparation works at the water treatment plant was monitored. The treatment works are to the north-east of the town, in the townland of Kilmacart. A disused corn mill is adjacent to the entrance to the site, which is on the northern bank of the River Derreen. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered during the work.
