Castle Upton is an area rich in archaeological heritage. Excavations carried out before the construction of the Hilton Hotel and associated golf-course revealed the remains of an extensive Bronze Age landscape. In addition, the proposed development bordered a possible prehistoric burial mound (SMR 51:58). Monitoring of the various stages of the development works was carried out over a number of months in 2002. However, nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
