Monitoring and testing of this area of Belfast just east of Oxford Street was brought about by development. It provided an opportunity to investigate the potential survival of archaeological remains associated with an early river crossing in the vicinity of the present-day Queen’s Bridge. The investigation has shown that, if any archaeological remains existed at this location, these were destroyed by the construction of the subway that runs parallel to and under the River Lagan.
