During monitoring on the Kilmacanogue to Glen of the Downs road improvement scheme, a small, charcoal-enriched spread was uncovered in the townland of Kilmurry South. Upon excavation the feature was found to represent a classic example of a burnt tree bole. It consisted of a bowl-shaped pit filled with redeposited topsoil, which included burnt twigs, stones and lumps of burnt clay. The hollow had irregular sides and channels running away from it, representing the position of roots. No other finds or features of archaeological significance were recovered.
