Monitoring of topsoil clearance took place for the construction of an extension, 9m by 10m, to a private dwelling-house in Killoughter townland, Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, on 21 March 2001. The development site was in an area of high archaeological potential, near the eastern boundary wall of a church and graveyard, SMR 19:24. There were no archaeological features cut into the subsoil but there was a lot of evidence of modern disturbance across the site.
Ground reduction took place to an average depth of 0.7m. The only features cut into the subsoil were two modern stone-filled land drains in the north-west corner of the site. The drains were filled with a mixture of small stones and pieces of red brick and were roughly orientated in an east–west direction. Foundation trenches were also monitored. No archaeological features or artefacts were discovered during monitoring.
