Rescue excavation, from 25 June to 6 July 2001, of an area of discoloured soil revealed it to be the remains of part of a burnt spread of stone and soil, possibly the remains of a fulacht fiadh. If so, then most of the fulacht fiadh lies within the embankment forming the western edge of the proposed carriageway. This lies beneath a slip-road and could not be examined. The site lies beneath 3m of redeposited boulder clay. No datable material or objects were found.
