Monitoring of topsoil-stripping and associated works continued during groundworks associated with the N11 Kilmacanogue–Glen of the Downs road improvement scheme (see Excavations 2000, No. 1088, for an earlier report on this work).

Six archaeological sites were identified during the monitoring.
1. A small fulacht fiadh was exposed in the townland of Kilmacanogue South at NGR 32650 21044, beside a small stream, and was excavated by Markus Casey in March 2001 under licence number 01E0249 (see No. 1364, Excavations 2001).
2. A second fulacht fiadh and a number of pits were also excavated by Markus Casey under licence number 01E0611 in the townland of Kilmurry North (see No. 1369, Excavations 2001).
3. A small burnt area measuring 2.5m by 1.15m was exposed at chainage 2330 and was excavated by Helen Kehoe in August 2001 under licence number 01E0783 (see No. 1363, Excavations 2001).
4. A small charcoal spread was identified at chainage 3900 and was excavated in September 2001 under licence number 01E0889 (see No. 1372, Excavations 2001). This was identified as a burnt and decayed tree bowl during the excavation.
