Monitoring of topsoil-stripping and limited pipe-trench excavations commenced for a three-week period on 27 August 2001. No features or deposits of archaeological interest were uncovered, although a number of medieval pottery sherds were recovered from an area adjacent to Baltinglass Abbey.
Owing to difficulties with one landowner, the civil engineering works were not completed, and it is expected that additional monitoring will be undertaken in mid-2002.
