Monitoring of excavations of sections of two service trenches was undertaken on 1 April 2001. The service lines were routed across the line of a 17th-century wall previously identified during testing undertaken in August 2000 (Excavations 2000, No. 1065).
Both trenches were excavated, through a layer of rubble fill, to a depth of 1.2m below the existing ground surface. No evidence of the wall was encountered and it is suggested that sections of the wall were removed during previous construction and demolition works on the site.
