Following the lodgement of a planning application with New Ross UDC, the local authority requested an archaeological assessment to include testing of the site in advance of a decision on the application. The area of the proposed development lay within the walled town of New Ross, in a greenfield site to the rear of buildings fronting onto Priory Street.
No features of archaeological importance were apparent in the soil in any of the trenches, and it appeared that the field had been used as a garden or paddock.
