Monitoring was carried out at the proposed site of a golf-course at Ballymoney, Co. Wexford. The development area measured 1100m (east–west) by 700m; it was bounded to the west by woodland and to the east by the Irish Sea. There were church ruins and an enclosure (SMR 7:37) located west of the site, and a 15m buffer zone was established to protect any remains which may have been directly associated with the monument.
The remains of an estate house, knocked down some years previously, were cleared in the course of the development.
Topsoil-stripping and rotivation were carried out over a number of weeks. A series of modern drains and natural curvilinear features were uncovered. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
Editor’s note: Although this excavation took place during 2000, the report was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
