Testing was a condition of planning permission on the site of a proposed dwelling-house and riding stables at Togherstown, Loughanavally. The south-western end of the site lies within the constraint boundary for the archaeological complex of Uisneach Hill (SMR 24:177), and the remains of Boleyvillish Castle (SMR 24:31) are situated in the adjacent plot of land to the east.
Five test-trenches were opened between 25 and 27 June 2001. Trench 1 was excavated in the location of the proposed dwelling-house and Trenches 2–5 in the area of the riding stables. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were encountered during testing.
