A development proposal for housing on the site required an archaeological assessment to be made as part of the planning conditions. The assessment identified a crescent-shaped earthen mound as of potential interest. The mound was c. 12m in diameter and c. 0.3m high. Two trenches were later excavated through this mound but the revealed stratigraphy consisted of modern dumps of earth, stone and brick and the feature was deemed to be of no archaeological significance (see Excavations 2001, No. 1283). Monitoring of all further topsoil-stripping has been recommended.
