Test-trenching was carried out at this site as part of an archaeological assessment prior to the commercial development of the property. The development is in the village of Milltown Pass, Co. Westmeath, close to the main Athlone–Dublin road. Directly north of the development site is a large field that is marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey six-inch map as ‘Site of Castle’. There is no visible trace of any structural remains on the ground.
Two test-trenches were excavated. No archaeological features were uncovered during the excavations.
