Archaeological investigations were undertaken at ‘Rose Ville’, Western Road, Clonmel, to determine the presence and extent of a burial-ground marked on the 1850–1 OS map. The burial-ground came into existence sometime after 1841, probably during the Famine, when there was mortality from contagious diseases in the nearby Fever Hospital. Previous investigations had revealed that the burial-ground is on the front part of the site.

The owners of the site requested that further works be carried out to the rear of the known confines of the burial-ground to determine whether it extended beyond its known limits in advance of commencement of construction works. Fourteen test-trenches were opened. No archaeological remains were uncovered, and in particular no evidence for the burial-ground.
