Three trenches were mechanically excavated in the area of the Silver Swan Hotel carpark, Sligo, to assess the archaeological potential of the area prior to redevelopment. The area of the proposed development lies within the zone of archaeological potential of Sligo Town.
The trenches were excavated by mechanical digger. Modern services were identified cut into subsoil, as were the foundations of houses which until relatively recently had existed along the Fish Quay frontage.
Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during the assessment.
