Three sites in a line within an area 180m by 60m were tested in one operation. The location is east of the Glen, a rift valley that runs along the south side of Knocknarea. Site B is on the eastern edge of a boxed-off area for SMR 14:175–182 but there is no visible archaeology within the field, which has been ploughed many times in the past.
The site was tested by two parallel east–west-running trenches, each almost 50m long, one of which continued from Site C (Excavations 2001, No. 1167, 01E0787) and then on into Site A (No. 1165, Excavations 2001, 01E0788). The 0.08m-deep sod overlay a brown soil, under which were gravel deposits with some protruding areas of limestone, perhaps the broken surface of the underlying limestone bedrock. The maximum depth of soil was 0.35m. Only a few pieces of modern crockery were noted in the topsoil. There were no indications of archaeology in the areas tested.
