Test excavation took place at the rear of an existing building on Abbey Street, Roscommon. It is proposed to develop a carpark at the rear of the premises. The site lies within the zone of archaeological potential for Roscommon. Several sherds of glazed red earthenware were recovered from the site. They can, however, date from anytime in the late 17th century down to the 19th century. Therefore they are not diagnostic of archaeological remains.
Editor’s note: Although this excavation took place during 2000, the report was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
