Pre-construction testing and monitoring was undertaken at Quarry Lane, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, as part of planning permission to build apartments and commercial units.
Four test-trenches were opened on the site in advance of construction works. In addition to opening test-trenches, the removal of modern infill on the site was monitored prior to the commencement of the testing works.
No archaeological remains were uncovered in any of the trenches. The overburden and modern infill directly overlay the subsoil horizon, which in turn overlay the bedrock.
