Testing was undertaken on 8 July 2001 at the Monte Carlo Restaurant, Nos 12 and 13 Glaslough Street, Rooskey, Co. Monaghan, to determine the impact of the proposed development of new restaurant premises.
A test-trench measuring 6m in length (north-west/south-east) by 1.5m was excavated. The stratigraphy was composed of a dark brown topsoil that overlay a yellow grey glacial clay deposit. A third context, the redeposited fill for the cut for the channel of the modern water and sewage pipes, was also uncovered. No archaeological structures or artefacts were uncovered other than the remains of a (19th-century?) stone-lined well which were uncovered beneath a metal covering immediately to the south-west of the test-trench. Four modern water disposal pipes and two sewage pipes were also uncovered traversing the test-trench.
