Testing was undertaken at Lislea townland, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan, on 14 February 2001 to determine the impact the proposed development of a dwelling-house would have on any archaeological remains on the site prior to planning permission being granted.
One test-trench, 50m (east–west) by 2m, was opened using a mechanical digger. The stratigraphy consisted of medium brown topsoil that lay immediately above a light brown/red clay. Immediately beneath the clay was a grey natural deposit of glacial clay that contained large stones and rocks. Only the uppermost surface of this glacial clay was exposed. No archaeological features, either artefactual or structural, were uncovered.
