The site was exposed in the townland of Sarsfieldstown at chainage 12680 during earlier monitoring of topsoil-stripping conducted by Valerie J. Keeley Ltd during groundworks associated with the construction of Contract 7 of the Northern Motorway Project, and was provisionally identified as a possible small area of burnt stone.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed and no finds were recovered during the excavation. The site had been partially disturbed over the winter by weather and machine activity and the only feature uncovered was a modern stone-filled field drain. The feature identified during monitoring may have been destroyed during the winter, but it is more likely to have been a small area of decayed stone within the topsoil or natural sandy clay which resembled burnt stone.
