The site was discovered on 25 June 2001 as an area of dark charcoal staining and a fire-spot, near the western roundabout terminal of the Enfield Relief Road. The site was excavated within a grid measuring 20m by 10m, with a 5m by 5m extension; the excavation started on 24 July and finished on 1 August 2001. Twelve features were identified, none of which were found to be archaeologically significant. They were a modern infilled ditch which produced modern sherds of glass and a hone stone, an irregular fire-spot and a linear cultivation feature. Other features investigated were shown to be natural discolourations in the underlying subsoil. No further mitigation measures were recommended for the site.
