This site was detected during monitoring of topsoil-stripping along the proposed route of the Northern Motorway, Gormanston–Monasterboice, Contract 7. An area approximately 12m by 7m was cleaned back by hand and only one cut of possible archaeological significance was noted.

This cut was circular in plan, with a sharp break of slope with vertical sides to the north and a more gradual break of slope with concave sides to the south, to a maximum depth of approximately 0.1m. The primary fill was a loose grey-brown silty clay with occasional pebbles of 30mm diameter (max.). This appeared to be redeposited subsoil. The secondary fill was a loose dark grey-brown silty clay with occasional small pebbles, 30mm in diameter. There were also occasional charcoal flecks and some mottling of red, possibly burnt clay.

The circular shape of the feature along with the presence of both charcoal and probable burnt clay indicates that this may have been the remains of a small hearth.
