This site was detected when a small amount of charcoal was noted during monitoring of topsoil-stripping of the Northern Motorway, Gormanston– Monasterboice, Contract 7. An area 5m north–south by 7m surrounding the feature was cleaned back by hand.

It was identified as a roughly circular pit measuring 0.47m east–west by 0.43m. It had a maximum depth of 0.06m, with concave sides terminating on a fairly flat base. It was filled with a light grey-brown gritty sand concentrated towards its base and frequent inclusions of small pebbles 0.02m in diameter. There were very infrequent charcoal inclusions. It was recorded as a truncated post-hole.

Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded in the surrounding area and there were no associated finds.
