This site was identified during pre-construction test-trenching along the route of the Northern Motorway, Gormanston–Monasterboice, Contract 7. It was at the southern end of a pasture field which sloped gently to the north, close to the road between Oldbridge and Sheephouse townlands, approximately 500m south-west of the River Boyne.
The final dimensions of the excavated area were 11.98m east–west by 10m. The earliest phase of activity consisted of a linear feature cut into natural subsoil. This measured 2.7m in length and 0.32m in width. It was 0.14m deep. No dating evidence was recovered. This feature was truncated by a linear feature measuring 4.4m north–south and 0.6m in width. Again no datable material was recovered.
Post-excavation analysis is ongoing. The project was funded by Meath County Council.
