The owner of this licensed premises proposes to erect ten bedrooms to the rear of the property. Meath County Council required test-trenching as a condition of planning permission. The site is within the area of archaeological potential of Athboy. No SMR sites are recorded in the immediate vicinity.
Seven trenches were opened within the area to be disturbed by the foundations of the building extension, which will be to a maximum depth of 0.9m. All were 2m wide and c. 1m deep. None of them contained material, finds or features of an archaeological nature.
