Pre-development testing of the site of a proposed dwelling-house and ancillary site works was carried out on 31 July 2001 at Cordarragh townland, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo. The proposed development is within the constraint area of an enclosure, in a field of pasture sloping north-west/south-east. The adjacent enclosure, in the field to the south-south-west, was obscured by trees and bushes.
Five trial-trenches were excavated. The stratigraphy revealed consisted of natural subsoil and occasional bedrock (in Trench E only) below the topsoil. This represented natural undisturbed stratigraphy. Two sherds of modern pottery and one blackware sherd were recovered from the topsoil during the testing.
