Testing within the protected area of this earthwork was undertaken in June 2001. The site was investigated as part of the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme Stage III (see No. 918, Excavations 2001, 01E0314). The test area was between 30m and 50m from the earthwork and separated from it by the road leading to the village of Ballyglass.
The testing was conducted using a mechanical digger. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered. However, extensive and regular patterns of cultivation furrows were noted across the test area. Other evidence of recent soil disturbance included the remains of former field boundaries and local water scheme pipes.
A number of pieces of struck lithic débitage were recovered from the ploughzone, including chert flakes and a possible chert core.
