Monitoring of engineering test-pits was carried out west of ‘Clermont Cairn’ on the summit of Black Mountain. The test- pits were the proposed position for anchor points for a new telecommunications mast to be constructed for Radio Telefís Éireann. Two hand-excavated pits and one drill-hole were monitored. The stratigraphy consisted of black, water-saturated, peaty topsoil overlying the natural limestone bedrock at an average depth of c. 0.4m. No finds of archaeological significance were made.
