Monitoring of Phase 1 (which covered an area of 28,500m2) of construction works at Finnabair, Marshes Upper, Dundalk, was carried out in August 2001. A storm beach (see No. 860, Excavations 2001, 01E0835) was exposed within the north-eastern part of the site. No other features of archaeological significance or finds were recovered. However, owing to the site’s close proximity to several SMR sites and the discovery of the storm beach, all subsequent phases of construction works will require monitoring.
