Monitoring was conducted during topsoil-stripping and subsurface works in advance of the construction of 47 dwelling-houses (No. 854 Excavations 2001, 01E0947) and revealed two areas of archaeological stratigraphy. The second of these was initially shown to be a sizeable deposit of burnt stones and charcoal. Excavation showed that underneath the burnt mound spread, three pits, one that has been interpreted as a hearth and two as troughs, were located in close proximity to each other. One of these troughs had a stake-hole present in each corner which may represent supports for a timber trough. The second trough and the hearth were both truncated by a modern field drain. The results are compared with those from other excavations and the site is interpreted as a fulacht fiadh.
