Monitoring during topsoil-stripping and subsurface works in advance of the construction of 47 dwelling-houses under licence 01E0947 (No. 854, Excavations 2001) exposed two areas of archaeological stratigraphy. The first of these was initially shown to be a small dark spread of burnt mound material. Excavation revealed this to be the secondary fill of an oval pit. Both the primary and secondary fills contained within this pit were similar in nature, and, although this feature appeared in isolation, the disturbed nature of the ground surrounding it would suggest that any associated deposits may have been previously destroyed.
