Excavation of a pit, 11.8m by 3.7m by 0.85m deep, and two trenches running from the pit to the church took place immediately south of the extant church building. The western trench measured 4.8m by 0.75m by 0.6m, the eastern one 4.8m by 1–2.2m by 0.6–0.8m. The excavations were necessary for the construction of a solar greenhouse extension to the church by the owners, who live in and conduct their business from the building.
Nothing of any archaeological significance was discovered during the work. The SMR recorded that in 1966 eight pieces of carved stone comprising a doorway were at the site. Only six of these could be found during the assessment, carried out prior to the excavation, and the owner found only six when he bought the property in 1992. He has agreed to incorporate them into his building in order to protect them.
