An assessment of a proposed extension to the existing Medical Centre was carried out to confirm the presence or absence of archaeological features or deposits within the site. The site lies within the circuit of the medieval walls of Drogheda.
A single trench was excavated, measuring 4.7m by 1.7m, running across the width of the back plot of the property. The trench was excavated to a depth of 1.9m and the stratigraphy consisted of garden soil and rubble, with all finds of post-medieval to modern date. The strip foundations of the new development are intended to be 1.5m deep and will not affect archaeological deposits if they exist at a depth greater than that of the trial-trench.
