During field-walking by the Archaeological Unit of Limerick County Council, in association with the Castleconnell Sewerage Scheme, a low mound was noted near the way-leave corridor, in a flat field covered in poor pasture and wetland vegetation. A test excavation was carried out.
A single trench was excavated at the edge of the way-leave corridor to a depth of 0.6m below ground level. Sod and topsoil directly overlay peat, which overlay the natural boulder clay.
No archaeological remains were uncovered during the course of the works.
