During field-walking by the Archaeological Unit of Limerick County Council, in association with the Castleconnell Sewerage Scheme, a low bank forming a half-circle was noted on the route. A test excavation was carried out.
Subsurface results were identical in both trenches. The topsoil directly overlay the natural boulder clay, proving that this was a natural rise in the underlying strata, and no cut or redeposition was uncovered.
No archaeological remains were discovered during the course of the works.
