The excavation of a levelled fulacht fiadh, identified during monitoring of topsoil-stripping prior to the construction of the Limerick Southern Ring-Road, was undertaken in June 2001. The site was noted as a spread of burnt material some 10m by 8m, centred around a trough feature. The subrectangular trough contained the trace of one timber, 1.43m in length, in a very poor state of preservation. Two modern drains were cut into the fulacht fiadh material. Both were filled with burnt stone. It appeared that the fulacht fiadh had been levelled during localised land reclamation works.
