A number of archaeological sites were identified during test-trench investigations carried out in two fields to the east of the Monaleen road within the line of the Limerick Southern Ring-Road. These fields were chosen for testing following the identification of a number of scatters of flint during the programme of field-walking along the ploughed route of the road.
Fourteen 10m by 10m trenches were opened in the field immediately adjacent to the Monaleen road (field 24), and four of these revealed the presence of archaeological deposits. The second field, to the east (field 25), was investigated by opening nineteen 10m by 10m test-trenches, and ten of these revealed archaeological deposits. Monitoring of the removal of a field boundary to the east of the latter field revealed the presence of a burnt deposit and this feature was also investigated
