Underwater archaeological assessment of the River Shannon in advance of a proposed pipeline crossing for the Limerick main drainage scheme identified an iron anchor and chain, a large timber and a wagon-wheel, as isolated finds. Investigation of each location did not indicate associated materials. The anchor measures just under 2m long and is an 1841 Admiralty pattern anchor. The items were removed from the riverbed and transported to a safe haven away from the works area.
