Archaeological works were carried out at Castle Street prior to the construction of a public house. The site was located to the south of the existing Plantation castle. The developer intended to demolish the existing building on the site prior to the construction of a new public house. The remains of the old building were inspected before its demolition. It appeared to be of recent date and no features reused from the castle were noticed. The demolition of the house was monitored and the rubble examined on site. No stones of archaeological interest were found.
Four test-trenches were mechanically excavated on the site. No archaeological deposits or structures were uncovered during the testing. All the deposits appeared to be modern and bedrock occurred at a high level.
