Test trenching was carried out on two anomalous mounds, identified during field-walking, within a proposed development area on the east bank of Lough Allen, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim.
Two trenches were mechanically excavated, one across each of the mounds. The trench across Mound 1 indicated that it was a field clearance cairn, while Mound 2 was identified as a natural formation of peat around a spring.
