The site is located to the rear of 71 High Street, Kilkenny. The proposed three-storey ‘infill’ development is to be in the garden and yard area of the High Street property with access from St Kieran’s Street to the rear. An assessment carried out in April 2001 included a short programme of testing in which a number of trenches were opened to investigate the presence and depth to the top of archaeological deposits. In September 2001 one trench was reopened and deepened to ascertain the nature and depth of archaeological deposits on the site. As a result, excavation of the site was recommended in advance of development.
