Dúchas recommended monitoring of the demolition of a dividing wall between two properties in Kilkenny city centre, after a pre-development inspection had raised the possibility of the presence of early fabric. The demolition took place over two days, and towards the end of the first day a 2.7m length of stone wall fabric was encountered. This had, however, been left as a mere skin on the inside of No. 34, as a fireplace had been inserted at some stage into the ground-floor wall of No. 33, subsequently destroying most of the surviving wall on that side. The remainder of the wall to the shop front was constructed of hand-made low-fired red brick, with occasional factory-produced (Athy Brick Co. Ltd) brick evident also. The stone fabric was drawn and photographed before demolition proceeded. The original length of the wall was around 8.5m, an east–west length shared by the nearby Tholsel building. This and the presence of a number of stones (including two quoins) led to the interpretation of the wall as being a remnant of a former 16th-century building.
