A single mechanically excavated trench was opened on 5 February 2001 on this tiny site. Subsoil was reached at 2.3m below modern ground level at the north side of the site, where it was overlain by modern deposits. Over the remainder of the site it lay at a deeper level and was not reached as the trench could only be dug to a depth of 2.6m. In this area medieval river silt, which contained medieval pottery, twigs, animal bones and shells, formed the lowest layer reached. Its top lay at 1.7m below modern ground level. It was overlain by modern deposits.
It is probable that the site lies over the original edge of the medieval river frontage on the south side of the town.
