Monitoring of construction works at the Carlow Golf Club extension revealed three shallow circular pits, located on a low gravel ridge overlooking three SMR sites.
The three features were of similar dimensions: diameter 0.35m and depth 0.25m with a rounded profile. The fills were also similar, dividing into an upper fill of sandy clay with redeposited subsoil, with increasing charcoal staining and flecking towards the base.
One fragmentary sherd of unglazed pottery was recovered from the surface of the most easterly feature, which also produced a charcoal sample dated to 1517 BC.
