Monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the route of the Kildare Town Bypass was undertaken on behalf of Kildare County Council. A number of varied sites were discovered. Eight potential fulacht fiadh sites in Cherryville, Loughlion and Greyabbey townlands were discovered and excavated under licence numbers 01E0304, 01E0350, 01E0479, 01E0583 and 01E0846 (see Excavations 2001, Nos 612, 614, 618 and 616, and No. 660 Excavations 2001). A number of bowl furnaces in Cherryville townland were also excavated under licence number 01E0955 (No. 619 Excavations 2001). Sites in the Curragh townland were investigated under licence number 01E0956 (No. 634 Excavations 2001). Two sites in Curraghfarm townland located under the haul-road remain to be investigated. Part of an urn burial under a temporary slip-road in Loughlion townland will also require further investigation.
