An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at a development site at Eadestown, Naas, Co. Kildare, on 21 April 2001. Cartographic material contained in the files of the Archaeological Survey of Ireland indicate the presence of a mound or earthwork/enclosure on the site. However, trial-trenching along the possible edges of this site, as well as within its central area, did not uncover any evidence for an archaeological monument.
The surface of the development field, as well as that located to the immediate north-east, is up to 2m above that of the adjacent road, indicating that the construction of the latter cut into the original slope. This cut is still very obvious within the development site and, coupled with the adjacent field boundary, gives the impression of a mound or enclosure.
No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of testing.
