An archaeological assessment, including test excavation, was undertaken in advance of construction of a two-storey building extension at the rear of No. 4 Day Place, Tralee, Co. Kerry. Day Place is a Georgian terrace of ten houses within the zone of archaeological potential for Tralee. Three narrow cuttings were opened by machine and then cleaned down by hand. In all three cuttings a layer of modern rubble and redeposited natural was recorded to a depth of c. 1m. Midden layers, which included fragments of bone, oyster and mussel shells, underlay the redeposited natural. These layers were identified at varying depths. Further archaeological work will be required.
