Pre-development testing was undertaken at Gortagass, Kenmare, Co. Kerry, subsequent to an application to construct a single dwelling-house. Test excavations were carried out to determine the nature and extent of potential subsurface remains of an adjacent enclosure site. No visible remains of the monument survive above ground, either in the proposed development site or in the adjoining eastern property. Four test-trenches were selected on the footprint of the development. The trenches were excavated with a mini-digger with a flat grading bucket, then cleaned down by hand. No archaeological features or artefacts were found in any of the trenches.
